Website: https://matrimony.fr
Contact: contact@matrimony.fr
This Privacy Policy explains how Matrimony.fr (“we”, “us”, “our”, the “Platform”) collects, uses, shares, and protects your personal data when you use our website and services. Please read it together with our Terms & Conditions and Cookie Policy. By using the Platform you acknowledge the practices described here.
1. Who We Are (Data Controller)
The Platform is operated by the owner of https://matrimony.fr. For the purposes of the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and French data protection law, the operator acts as the data controller for the personal data processed through the Platform. You can reach us regarding any data protection matter at contact@matrimony.fr.
2. Scope
This policy applies to https://matrimony.fr and all of its regional and language subdomains. It does not apply to third-party websites we may link to, which have their own privacy policies.
3. Information We Collect
We collect the following categories of personal data:
(a) Account data — the email address and name provided by Google when you sign in with Google OAuth, and your language preference.
(b) Profile data — name, date of birth, age, gender, height, complexion, marital status, education, occupation, income range, country, state, city, family details (parents’ names, number of siblings), photographs you upload, and the partner preferences you describe.
(c) Special category data — religion, caste/sub-caste/kulam, and horoscope details (Rasi, Nakshatra, birth time/place). See Section 4.
(d) Contact data — phone number, WhatsApp number, and address, where you choose to provide them.
(e) Technical & usage data — IP address, browser type, device information, and server log data, collected automatically for security and to operate the service.
(f) Cookies — see our Cookie Policy.
4. Sensitive (Special Category) Data
Information about your religion and caste, and your horoscope details, is considered “special category” personal data under Article 9 GDPR. Because such data is central to traditional matrimonial matching, we process it only on the basis of your explicit consent, which you give voluntarily when you enter this information into your profile. It is used solely for matrimonial matching and compatibility (porutham) purposes. You may withdraw this consent at any time by editing your profile to remove the information, or by deleting your profile.
5. Legal Bases for Processing
We rely on the following legal bases under Article 6 (and Article 9 for special category data) GDPR:
Consent — Art. 6(1)(a) and Art. 9(2)(a) — for creating your profile, displaying it to other members, and processing sensitive data.
Performance of a contract — Art. 6(1)(b) — to provide the services you request under our Terms.
Legitimate interests — Art. 6(1)(f) — to keep the Platform secure, prevent fraud and abuse, and improve our services, balanced against your rights.
Legal obligation — Art. 6(1)(c) — where we must process data to comply with the law.
6. How We Use Your Information
We use your information to: create and manage your matrimonial profile; display your public profile to other registered members seeking matches; provide horoscope compatibility analysis; allow our admin team to review, verify, and moderate profiles; communicate with you about your account and support requests; maintain safety, prevent fraud, and enforce our Terms; and operate and improve the Platform.
7. Profile Visibility
Public information: only your first name, age, city, country, religion, caste, and education are shown publicly. Your photo is shown publicly only if you enable that option; otherwise a default avatar is displayed.
Private information: your phone number, WhatsApp number, address, full family details, and any photos marked private are normally visible only to our admin team and are not shared with other users — subject to the Contact Access feature described in Section 8.
8. Contact Access Feature
The operator may enable an optional “Contact Access” feature. When it is enabled, members who have been granted access (through a time-limited free window and/or an individual grant by an administrator) may view the phone number and WhatsApp number that you have provided in your profile, so they can contact you for matrimonial purposes. Your login email address is never revealed to other members. If you do not wish your phone or WhatsApp number to be visible to other members, simply leave those fields blank in your profile.
9. Photo Privacy
You control whether each photo is public or private. If you keep your photos private, a default avatar is shown to other users. When you delete a photo or your profile, the underlying image files are permanently removed from our servers.
10. Cookies
We use strictly necessary cookies for session management, security (CSRF protection), your cookie-consent choice, and your language preference. Any analytics or non-essential cookies are used only where permitted. Full details, including how to manage cookies, are in our Cookie Policy.
11. Third-Party Services and Processors
We use a limited number of trusted service providers who process data on our behalf under appropriate agreements, including: Google (sign-in / OAuth authentication), our transactional email provider (to send account and support emails), our hosting provider, and a content-delivery / security provider. These providers may only process your data on our instructions. We do not sell your personal data to anyone.
12. International Data Transfers
Some of our providers may process data outside your country or the European Economic Area (EEA). Where personal data is transferred outside the EEA, we rely on appropriate safeguards recognised under GDPR, such as adequacy decisions or Standard Contractual Clauses.
13. Data Retention
We keep your personal data for as long as your account is active. When you delete your profile, your personal data, photos, and associated records are permanently removed from our systems, except for minimal information we may need to retain briefly for security, dispute resolution, or to comply with legal obligations.
14. Data Security
We apply appropriate technical and organisational measures, including encrypted connections (HTTPS), secure session handling, hashed/parameterised (prepared) database statements, input validation, CSRF protection, and access controls limiting who can view private data. However, no method of transmission or storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
15. Your Rights
Subject to applicable law, you have the right to: access your personal data; rectify inaccurate data; erase your data (“right to be forgotten”); restrict or object to certain processing; obtain a portable copy of data you provided; and withdraw consent at any time (without affecting processing already carried out). You can exercise most of these rights directly from your dashboard, or by contacting us at contact@matrimony.fr.
16. Right to Lodge a Complaint
If you believe we have not handled your personal data properly, you have the right to lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority. In France, this is the Commission Nationale de l’Informatique et des Libertés (CNIL — www.cnil.fr). You may also contact the supervisory authority in your country of residence.
17. Age Restriction
The Platform is strictly intended for adults aged 18 or over. We do not knowingly collect personal data from anyone under 18. If we become aware that a minor has provided us with personal data, we will delete it.
18. Automated Decision-Making
We do not make decisions producing legal or similarly significant effects about you based solely on automated processing. Horoscope compatibility results are provided for information and guidance only.
19. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. The “Last updated” date at the top indicates when it was last revised. Significant changes will be reflected on this page.
